Custom Deck Builder in MichiganA custom deck is an easy option for renovating your home. It is a project you can do without losing the function of your kitchen, bathroom, and recreation areas.

While it may be a relatively easy project, is it really the right answer for your home and budget? Here are 7 reasons why a deck may be just the right addition.

A Custom Deck Specific to Your Needs

When you build a custom deck, you know that it is going to meet your specific needs. Some of what people customize their deck for include:

  • A robust grilling space
  • A safe space for kids to play
  • A cozy reading nook
  • Outside space for yoga or tai chi
  • Pool Deck
  • Elevated home garden
  • Outside movie theater
  • Outdoor office space
  • And more!

As you can see, a deck is not simply a platform attached to or near your home. Rather, it is a world of possibility to help you experience life the way you want it at your home.

Enjoyable

Beyond bringing increasing functional space, decks are simply enjoyable, and for a number of reasons.

You know what they say in Michigan, if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes. When you are in the yard for recreation, you are subject to the conditions of the ground, including the unexpected rain. You are also going to contend with all of the little friends who make their home in the dirt and along the ground.

When you build a custom deck in Grand Rapids, you remove many of these variables by bringing your space off the actual ground. Even if you are only a few inches off the ground, that is still enough to help reduce the effects.

Decks also make the space more manageable to reducing down flying nuisances. You can use citronella torches or an electric zapper. Whatever method you choose, it will allow you to a more definable area to manage.

Increased Home Value

Many homeowners in Grand Rapids enjoy increased home values when building a new deck. These decks add valuable square footage to the home. They also add a lot to curb appeal when first installed and maintained correctly. Considering you do not have to move out to enjoy this particular renovation, it is a relatively low impact project with a high return on the investment.

When building a deck, you are going to have to decide whether to build with pressure-treated wood or use a composite material (which is plastic). Pressure-treated wood is generally less expensive to install. It also allows you to pressure wash the deck and stain it again in the future. You can also replace individual boards as they decay and continue to pressure wash and stain or paint it as needed to keep it looking good.

Composite is going to require less work on the front end, being it will already be the color you are looking for. In terms of maintenance in the short-term, it is fairly easy to wash to keep it looking nice. Long-term is a bit different. The color will fade over time. This may become problematic if part of the deck is in the sun, while another part is in the shade. Then you have two different tones on your deck. Also, if you have to replace a portion of the deck due to damage, you will again have two different colors.

You want to keep it looking new at the time you want to sell your home to get the greatest return.

Increased Usable Square Footage

One of the biggest reasons people in Grand Rapids choose a custom deck is the increased usable square footage. Whether you are looking for a space to relax, work out, have the kids play, or cook, the extra space is important.

One big hassle people experience is having to move things around inside to make space for some of their daily life. Imagine not having to move furniture to get your workout in. Or have your children’s birthday party outside instead of worrying about everything breaking or being borrowed inside. Consider not having to move the grill every time you want to enjoy a barbecue.

If you attempt to increase the square footage of your home, you have to worry about making the addition flow into your existing structure. In addition, you have to tear out existing walls, and lose the function of at least part of your home during construction. A deck helps provide many of the same advantages without these headaches.

Aesthetically Pleasing

The last benefit is certainly not the last, and that is the aesthetic appeal of a deck. People generally have a better feeling toward their home when there is a deck attached leading to the yard. This includes not only you a the homeowner and whoever may purchase your home in the future, but also your neighbors.

Adding a deck to your Michigan home is a great investment and will provide you the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of your property.

  • This is a must read. You can see minimum number of people who put a custom deck on their houses. Maybe it is for social purposes like when guest come or their friends or for party purposes. But one thing is for sure, it adds value to your house just like mentioned above. But what do you think on countries with very hot seasons? My advise is they should put decks in opposite direction where the sun rises.
